About Knitter Monkey

The basics: I'm 25 years old and live in Mableton, GA with my husband Dan, our dog Diesel, and our two cats Sydney grace and Ruckus. I work at a search engine optimization firm in town where I have a whole lot of job titles and responsibility, but also a lot of fun (as fun as a job is going to be, right?).

I taught myself to knit from the videos on KnittingHelp.com in December of 2005, and have grown steadily more and more obsessed ever since. At this point, there's yarn in every corner of our house and I spend so much time knitting that I've neglected some of my other favorite pastimes because there is no way to read a book or play a video game while you are knitting. Instead, I watch a whole lot of movies, and television, and particularly trashy television, because trashy television is pretty fabulous. Okay, maybe it is sad and maybe it is a little wrong to take pleasure in others' inadequacies, but they did volunteer to be on TV, right?

I know most people who learn to knit start with garter stitch scarves and slowly work their way up, but that has never been my style. I think I practiced stockinette for an hour, then immediately began a tank top - a wool tank top, by the way, perhaps not the smartest choice of materials in hindsight. What I lack in actual knitting experience, I make up for with crazy choices of projects to tackle - the more complicated the pattern and the smaller the needles, the more likely I'm going to feel compelled to make it, for reasons that even I do not know.

The only thing I am as crazy about as knitting is monkeys, hence Knitter Monkey. I am really, really nutty with the monkeys. It started off with one T-shirt in college, and has somehow turned into monkeys in every corner of my life. Right next to the yarn.
